You should sit down for this…
You’re never prepared to hear the words, “Your mom has breast cancer,” and all the feelings that come with it. When my mother, Gloria, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 I was shocked, upset, sad, and angry. I remember thinking “My mommy has cancer,” and I had no idea how to help her. I just wanted to fix it so she didn’t have to suffer. My mom was always there for us, and it was our turn to be there for her. We could care for her by taking her to appointments, navigating the healthcare system, hospitals, doctors, medications, and simply talking with her – being empathetic instead of angry.

I’m happy to say my mom is cancer free and still with us today.
All guys feel helpless, hopeless, and afraid the person we love is going to die. I certainly hated not knowing how to help my mom or where to turn for advice or support.
Fighting the Good Fight
MSWWC is the nation’s first and only national non-profit whose primary focus is to educate and empower men to be effective caregivers when cancer strikes the women they love. Since our founding, we have mobilized men across the country to be active participants in this fight – a fight we must face together side by side as partners in survival. You can help us continue to make a difference.
